After upgrading to the latest release of Roblox on the PC, you might see the error message “Change your settings to play”. Don’t worry — here’s how to fix it so kids can get back to playing safely.
👾 Why Does This Error Appear?
Roblox checks your Xbox account settings to make sure they’re safe for kids. If certain permissions are blocked — like multiplayer or community content — Roblox won’t let you play. The good news is you can fix this quickly using the Xbox Family Settings App.
🛠 Step-by-Step Fix (For Parents & Kids)
- Download the Xbox Family Settings App
Free on iOS and Android. Search for “Xbox Family Settings” in your app store. - Sign In
Use the parent’s Microsoft account and select your child’s profile. - Tap the Cog Icon (⚙️)
Located at the top right of the screen to open settings. - Go to Content Restrictions
Change the following:- See and upload community creations → set to Everyone
- Multiplayer → set to Allowed
- Cross-network play → set to Allowed
- Save Your Changes
Always tap Save after updating settings. - Restart Roblox
Close the game, reopen it, and test.
⚠️ Troubleshooting Tip
If Roblox still shows the error, go back into the Xbox Family Settings App. Sometimes changes don’t save properly, so double-check each setting and try again.
🎮 Back to Playing!
Once the settings are updated, Roblox should load without issues. Kids can jump back into their favourite games, and parents can relax knowing the account is safe but not overly restricted.
